The Gaden Samdrupling Buddhist Monastery was founded
in 1999 by the renowned Tibetan Buddhist teacher Ven.
Kyabje Dagom Rinpoche. His deepest wish in establishing
the monastery was to preserve for the benefit of all
sentient beings the Buddha's teachings as transmitted
by the Gelugpa lineage of Tibetan Buddhism.
After traveling to Bloomington, IN for
several months to receive teachings at Dagom Gaden Tensungling
Buddhist Monastery, the students in Cincinnati invited
the monks to Ohio to teach. After meeting in community
spaces and in the homes of students, GSL was able to
purchase a house in Winton Place. After almost two years
of constant growth, the monastery needed more space
and purchased 8.5 acres of land in Colerain Township.
The monastery moved to it new home at 3046 Pavlova Drive
in December 2007.
Though GSL functions as a traditional
monastery for monks of this lineage, it also welcomes
lay people of all nationalities and backgrounds to participate
in religious, cultural and educational programs. These
include sacred teachings by visiting and resident monks,
the construction of precious sand mandalas, guest lectures
to schools and community groups and the annual Taste
of Tibet in which the monks cook Tibetan delicacies
for the community.
